The Simple Science of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car
I’m no where near an expert on the topic of hydrogen fuel cell technology, but I certainly can spot simple science when I see it. Basically, when you can build a toy powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, it doesn’t get any simpler. The embedded clip begs the question: “If they can make a toy powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, then why is it taking so long for a full sized car?” Yes, I know, hydrogen fuel cell cars do exist, and they are more complicated than a toy, but why are we still waiting? And please don’t say we don’t have the refueling infrastructure to support it. That argument never stopped the car from becoming popular when it was first introduced.

One of the companies I provide IT support for owns and operates a small chain of convenience stores. I know from their standpoint it will require either consumer demand or a government mandate to install hydrogen refueling pumps. I’m sure as with ordinary fuel pumps, there will be EXTENSIVE government regulation as to how high and wide the pump will have to be and in what proximity to other pumps and buildings. You would not believe all the hoops we currently have to go through to open a new star and maintain ongoing regulatory compliance. I’m not making excuses, but just stating the facts.
When these H-cars do hit the road and require a place to refuel, I’m sure we’ll want to get the jump on our competitor across the street and get our pumps installed first. As for buying a full scale H-car, put me on the waiting list!
