A New ID That Could Save Your Life

Posted on December 27th, 2007 in Rave by Barry

When I took a road trip with my 6-year old daughter in June 2007, I became very concerned about what would happen if one or both of us were to become injured or separated during our trek. My daughter knows how to use a basic cell phone and dial 9-1-1, but could she provide the basic information to emergency personnel. While my driver’s license would probably give them quite a bit to start with in that scenario, what about a situation when we are on one of our bike rides around Salem Lake and I don’t bring my wallet along. That’s where a new product called Road ID comes to the rescue.

Shopping Plans for After Christmas?

Posted on December 24th, 2007 in Rant by Bret

Based on comments posted here at Brothers in Blog and through casual conversation it seems that the majority of shoppers this Christmas were disappointed with the “Black Friday Deals” and anything thereafter. Does that mean that better savings await us during the post Christmas shopping season? Do you plan to hunt for deals at any of the major retail chains? Take the poll shown below and let us know.

QUIET PLEASE!

Last Sunday, my family attended a band recital being held by Chestnut Grove Middle School and West Stokes High School in Stokes County, NC. Our goddaughter attends the middle school and plays the trumpet and our foreign exchange student attends the high school and plays percussion. The event was held in the high school’s gymnasium since they don’t have an auditorium.

3 Tales of Customer Service: the good, the bad, and the ugly

Posted on December 17th, 2007 in Rant by Bret

Less than stellar customer service is common place during the Christmas shopping season. Just how bad, or how good, the experience depends entirely on the retailer and their basic understanding of “customer service.” Here are three recent shopping experiences exemplifying the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Take Me Back to the Rotary Phone!

Posted on December 13th, 2007 in Rant by Barry

Despite my title’s reference to the rotary phone, I’m not going to start bashing phone companies. Instead, I had hoped to plant an image in the minds of those that still remember such equipment and a simpler time.

Oprah Endorses Obama: Has Winfrey Gone Too Far?

Posted on December 10th, 2007 in Rant by Bret

Celebrity endorsements are common place in today’s politics. Seems that any Presidential candidate worth anything has the full endorsement of some celebrity. Hillary has Streisand. Huckabee has Chuck Norris (you know, the Karate dude that also does that infommerical with Christie Brinkley on that personal sled thing?), and now Obama has Oprah. If this were a tennis match, the score would be “advantage Obama.”

Send a Teddy Bear to Sudan

It appears that the turmoil over the innocent naming of a classroom teddy bear “Muhammad” in Khartoum has ended. British teacher Gillian Gibbons is back on her home soil and the Islamo-fascists now have to look for something new to get angry over. Has anyone besides me noticed that these people never, and I mean never, are pictured with a smile on their face. Even if they had gotten their way and Ms. Gibbons was executed for this blasphemy, they would probably still be wearing those scowls.

Candidates Could Benefit From a Bigger Shovel

A recent public opinion poll from The Onion indicates that Presidential candidates could benefit greatly from piling on more useless information to boost their campaign. Despite being a satire, the clips isn’t far from the truth.
