Give a Garmin

Posted on November 30th, 2007 in Review by Barry

In my brother’s last post, I commented that I had no electronic gadget needs this year and that’s true. I got a laptop last Christmas and sometime afterwards I purchased my first GPS. I don’t do a lot of traveling outside of familiar territory, but when I do I LOVE my Garmin.

Black Friday and No Deals to Speak of

Posted on November 26th, 2007 in Rant by Bret

Last year (2006) was the first time I ever went out shopping on Black Friday. Given my Christmas gift situation at the time I actually found several items I needed to purchase at extreme discounts. Coming home last year my wife and I agreed that going out on Black Friday was a lot of fun. We got some good deals and had a good time. Let’s do it again next year. Well, Black Friday 2007 came and went and I was highly disappointed.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

As I drove into work on Wednesday morning, I listened intently to the news and the never ending “on location” status reports from our nation’s airports. While I didn’t really expect to hear anything earth shattering at 7 a.m., what did actually bring a smile to my face was the report of an absence of problems at the airports. Interviews with air travelers were much the same in that they arrived to the airport earlier to avoid long screening lines. WOW…advance planning in action!

Another week of football and the New England Patriots take another step closer to the Super Bowl and a possible perfect season. If you’re not a New England sports fan, you probably hate the incredibly successful and seemingly unstoppable Patriots. Of course, if you are a New England sports fan, then brace yourself for another week of “sour grapes” — the Patriots ran up the score again…whine, complain, whimper, sniffle.

Welcome Home Our Heroes

I caught the tail end of the Glenn Beck show on CNN last night and heard about the organization A Hero’s Welcome, which currently only has a chapter in Philadelphia. Unlike the popular Welcome Home A Hero program at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, A Hero’s Welcome appears to focus on the story of a single soldier and meeting his or her needs when they return.

I’ve been on a quest to connect my iPod to my car stereo. I’ve looked at various options and decided I was better off giving in and buying a new car stereo. Here’s what I selected and a quick run down on how I did it myself.

A simple “Yes” or “No” will do Senator

It seems that every talk show host in the country is talking about Hillary Clinton’s inability to give a clear answer on whether she agrees or disagrees with New York Governor Eliot Spitzer’s decision to grant drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Now, the subject of Hillary running for President and drivers licenses for illegals are not the issues, but the fact that she cannot give a clear “Yes” or “No” answer is.

Grief Counselor? Good Grief!

Just a few days ago, there was a devastating house fire at Ocean Isle Beach, SC that took the lives of 7 students. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it is believed to have started on the outside deck. If I was a betting man, I’d say the cause will be a smoldering cigarette or hot charcoal briquette that fell through the bottom of a rusted Weber.
