Bloggers Uniting Behind a Single Topic: The Environment

Posted on August 20th, 2007 in Rave by Bret

One of the greatest parts of blogging is being part of a virtual community. Regardless of who I am, where I am, or what I blog about, I’m part of the larger community that makes up the blog-o-sphere. Being part of that community allows me to take part in its larger initiatives, and one such initiative is the upcoming Blog Action Day.

On October 15, 2007 bloggers around the world will unity and put a single issue on everyone’s mind: the environment. To learn more about this community wide initiative, visit the Blog Action Day web site. Even if you don’t have a blog you can participate in other ways on October 15, 2007.

Great idea. Let’s not jump on the “Global Warming” band wagon. I fear that’s where the other blogs are going to head because it’s politically in fashion, and I’m of the group that thinks it’s junk science.

I think we can make sensible changes that control greenhouse gases such as using solar and wind energy, but my reason for moving to these alternative energy sources is to reduce our dependancy on foreign oil and not because Al Gore thinks it’s causing the current heat wave. Hey, it’s the South and it’s damn hot! Looking forward to October 15th.

I concur — to a point. I’m in the middle of the global warming issue, I’m not convinced completely one way or the other; however, I fear that a prolonged debate on the issue detracts from the simple fact that continued release of C02 emissions into the atmosphere is just plain bad.

Venture into any large urban area and take a deep breath. Commit that experience to memory. Now, go someplace like the northern part of Maine and take another deep breath. Now wasn’t that much better?

I know, it’s hard to do that type of test but the point is easy to understand: pollution is real and it sucks. We need to reduce C02 emitting machines, and alternative renewable energy sources are needed no matter where you stand on the issue of global warming.

Global warming is a bunch of bull. Just like the global cooling bull of the 1970’s. And that is 99.9% of what I think this day of blogging “unity” will be about.

We should clean the air because it is the right thing to do. The global warning lie has just tainted that issue.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Blog unity on October 15th will be almost entirely be about global warming.

The controversial nature of the global warming theory distracts from the more important point — we need to take care of our environment. When the validity of the theory becomes the focus of the debate, the nay sayers have won and the environment loses.

Tom has made a good suggestion: “We should clean the air because it is the right thing to do.” It really couldn’t have been put more simpler than that.

    Thanks for the comment Tom.

My wife and I just returned from northern Maine on a 10 day vacation. We stay in Bar Harbor we parked our car at the Hotel and did not get into it again until we left. Bar Harbor has Free Bus Service in and out of Acaida National Park to reduce the traiffic in the park and in the town of Bar Harbor plus the buses run on propane gas instead of gas. The only thing we did not see was wind mills to power peoples homes.

What about solar? Did you notice any solar panels on rooftops in Bar Harbor?
