Plane, Train or Automobile: One Man’s Journey

Posted on June 28th, 2007 in Review by Barry

If you caught my 2-Cents in my brother Bret’s post on Monday, June 25 titled “Capitalize on the Apple iPhone Hype” you read that I was late in adding my 2-Cents because I was driving from his home in MA to my home in NC. While it wasn’t technically necessary to collaborate on the Brothers in Blog site in person, sometimes more ideas can be exchanged over a cup of coffee out on the patio of one’s local cafe than in an IM conversation. Besides, it had been 2 years since my daughter got to visit with her cousins and this seemed like a perfect opportunity to update that connection.

Capitalize on the Apple iPhone Hype

Posted on June 25th, 2007 in Rave by Bret

The tech industry and general consumer electronic market is all abuzz with the upcoming release of the Apple iPhone. Without a doubt, Steve Jobs and Apple have done an amazing job at generating buzz, excitement, and above all — desire — for the new Apple iPhone. The phone has yet to be officially reviewed by the tech industry (not a great lose in my opinion) and yet nearly everyone has heard about the new phone and nearly everyone that has heard about it, wants it!

GSM Cell Phones: The Only Way to Go

Posted on June 18th, 2007 in Rave by Bret

Nearly everyone has a cell phone these days, but why isn’t everyone using a cell phone that requires the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) base service? Coverage in your area and service contracts obviously prevent most people from jumping on the GSM bandwagon, but if those aren’t your excuses for being stuck in the land of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cell service, then read on.

A Bicyclist’s Code of Conduct for Road Riding

Warm weather has finally come to New England which means I can start biking again. Yes, that’s right. In my recreational time I am one of those spandex covered two-wheeled Lance Armstrong wanna-bes. And, if you’ve ever encountered one of us two-wheeled road warriors while driving your car, you know the aggravation we can cause; however, cyclists don’t have to be such a road nuisance if both bikers and drivers follow a few simple common sense rules of the road.

Chrysler Plans an Extreme Make Over for Its Hemi

Posted on June 7th, 2007 in Rant by Bret

In the name of “being green” and more fuel efficient, the well known Chrysler Hemi V8 engine is about to get a hybrid make over. Chrysler Aspens and Durangos equipped with the infamous Hemi currently get approximately 13 MPG in the city and 18 on the highway. The planned hybrid conversion is projected to take those vehicles to 18.2 MPG in the city and 22.5 MPG on the highway. If you do the math, the estimated increase comes to 29% for the city and 20% for the highway. Compare those numbers to gains realized when upgrading to a hybrid version of the Toyota Camry (24/34 MPG for a standard Camry to 40/38 MPG for a hybrid Camry), and you’ll agree — Chrysler doesn’t have much to brag about.
