Sheryl Crow Says Use Less Toilet Paper And Solve Global Warming
I like to think I’m concerned about global warming and that I do try to can make simple lifestyles changes to help “do my part.” For example, I’ve started to replace all the incandescent light bulbs in my house with florescent bulbs. It’s a simple change, but it can help reduce the total amount of CO2 released into our environment. However, despite my desire to reduce my impact on the environment, there is a point where I draw the line. Call me selfish, but Sheryl Crow’s idea to limit my toilet paper usage to “only one square per restroom visit” is where I draw the line.
My usage of toilet paper is not wasteful. I use what I need to finish the job — no more, and certainly no less. I even encourage others to take the same “wildly selfish” approach and wipe to their heart’s content. Why you might ask? Because there is something oddly comforting to know that someone else is standing up for good hygiene and rejecting Sheryl’s idea of just one square or perhaps even her brother’s more insane idea of “washing the one square out!”
Yes, there are a lot of simple ways we can help protect our environment and reduce global warming. Using one square of toilet paper per visit, however, is not one of them. Nevertheless, to each his own and if you believe that you can manage with just one square per visit, then kudos to you. And should the opportunity to get Sheryl Crow’s autograph present itself, don’t forget where her hand has been and that she is a “one square per visit” practitioner — except of course during those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required.
Barry’s 2-Cents:
I totally agree! I would prefer that we all go by the arm’s length standard. I cannot remember where I heard this rule but it works for me. The one sheet per rule seems to be in the same family of unpleasant sights as those that forcefully discharge the contents of their nose onto the ground while walking out in public. As a popular radio and television personality put it, “remind me NOT to shake Sheryl’s hand.”

Recent celebration of Earth Day highlighted many ways to help our environment. However, Sheryl Crow’s idea of “one square TP” is ridiculous and not worth press coverage. What I would like to read is where can I put these “reduce, recycle, reuse” ideas into use? Of course we all buy Polartec - that’s an easy one. But where are the biodegradeable trash bags? We buy small ones for our compost container under kitchen sink. They’re made from cornstarch. There should be full page advertisements and mega shelves in stores pushing them at us to go along with the crackdown on plastic bags.
I just returned from a week’s stay at a national hotel chain that offers stacks of plastic dishes, bowls, utensils at buffet. Why not paper ones from recycled paper? We need to buy recycled products to make it feasible to recycle in the first place. More press coverage to REALLY inform us as we work together for a healthy planet!

Yes you are correct. Simple feasible recycling options seem to fall by the wayside in favor of these “celebrity endorsed” crazy ideas.

WHERE DID SHE EVEN COME UP WITH SUCH A CRAZY IDEA!?!?!?!?

I believe she credits her brother for this bright idea.
