Fence First…Vallado Primero

The current political topic getting almost as much airtime as the war in Iraq is the comprehensive immigration bill before the Senate. Regardless of your political party affiliation, this piece of legislation needs to be defeated to protect the sovereignty and stability of the United States.

Filed under the category of “now-I’ve-seen-everything” is the annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. The unbelievable took place over the past weekend (5/13/07 - 5/14/07) in Las Vegas where 300 regional finalists from across the nation competed in the popular school yard game for a grand prize of $50,000. Yes, your eyes do not deceive you — the grand prize was $50,000 for a game best known for resolving minor disputes, and this year Jamie Langridge was the best of them all!

Parenthood…The Cure for Selfishness

Posted on May 14th, 2007 in Rave by Barry

Earlier this month, my wife and I took our 5-year old daughter to Minnesota to join up with my parents for a week long vacation. The fact that our plane, rental car, and hotel reservations were all in order and no problems were encountered made this trip especially enjoyable. While the primary purpose of our trip was to visit my grandmother and other relatives who still reside in my birthplace, I was REALLY looking forward to seeing my daughter Emma’s enjoyment at the Mall of America in Bloomington.

BookMooch - The Ulitmate Example of Social Networking

Posted on May 10th, 2007 in Rave by Bret

What is “social networking?” Wikipedia describes social networking in its simplest form as “a map of all of the relevant ties between the nodes being studied.” What? Sounds like a lawyer or excessively “politically correct” person authored that entry. However, from my perspective “social networking” is all about sharing. Yes, someone could argue that “social networking” is so much more, but at the core of every “social network” is sharing. And few other instances on the web today exemplify sharing as much as Bookmooch.

No Hilton for Paris

Posted on May 7th, 2007 in Rant by Barry

It may be slow coming but Paris Hilton’s “Get Out of Jail Free” card has finally expired. That’s right, Paris is heading to LA County lockup for 45 days for violating her probation agreement when she was caught driving on a suspended license. Although her attorney vows to appeal the judge’s decision, we might actually get to see how a makeup-free Paris looks in prison orange.

Sheryl Crow Says Use Less Toilet Paper And Solve Global Warming

Posted on May 2nd, 2007 in Rant by Bret

I like to think I’m concerned about global warming and that I do try to can make simple lifestyles changes to help “do my part.” For example, I’ve started to replace all the incandescent light bulbs in my house with florescent bulbs. It’s a simple change, but it can help reduce the total amount of CO2 released into our environment. However, despite my desire to reduce my impact on the environment, there is a point where I draw the line. Call me selfish, but Sheryl Crow’s idea to limit my toilet paper usage to “only one square per restroom visit” is where I draw the line.
